Yoga Journey
forever unfolding
I became a yoga alliance certified 500hr Yoga Instructor in 2008. A couple years prior, I began taking yoga classes as a form of physical fitness and quickly observed the added mental and emotional benefits of a regular practice. It’s a currently a huge part of my lifestyle and spiritual practice and I can say with conviction that I wouldn’t know where I would be if I didn’t find yoga….or rather, if yoga never found me! I was so inspired by the life changes, that wanted to give away what I loved most. As a result, I founded Harmony Yoga Studio in 2010 and ran a full time yoga program for 4 years.
I currently teach special workshops as well as guest teach at community yoga events in Central Florida. I also substitute teach at my home studio, Peaceful Peacock. My teaching style is one that reflects a lighthearted, go-with-the-flow approach that mirrors my unconventional personality. I love the organic and fluid movements from flow style yoga because it leaves the student feeling both relaxed and invigorated. Generally my classes begin with a grounding approach through breath awareness and gently moves into vinyasa-style format that integrates strength-building postures. Sprinkled in will be a corny joke or two, as well as a few longer held postures to give the students an opportunity to regroup and reflect inwardly. After building some heat in the body, I guide the students into a smooth closing sequence, restorative stretching, and a final relaxation.
One of my favorite teachers, Max Strom, says “It doesn’t matter how deep into a posture you go, what matters is who you are when you get there.” Basically, yoga is not about putting your leg behind your head, it’s about all the things you learn while trying. So, there is no yoga police that will penalize you and no rules to follow or break for that matter. That’s the beauty of this ancient practice….we each unfold in our own time, and in our own special way….all we really have to do is show up with an open mind.
